It has been great to be involved in this prestigious project. The main feature of the building is the aluminium rainscreen system which is coloured in a unique iridescent red. We worked very closely with our supply chain to ensure that a perfect colour match was achieved to meet the architect's specification and we couldn’t be happier with the results!"

Case Study: Radisson Red Glasgow Hotel
Located on the banks of the River Clyde at Finnieston Quay, the Radisson Red Glasgow stands as one of the city’s most striking modern buildings—a ten‑storey boutique hotel featuring 176 bedrooms, rooftop amenities, premium leisure facilities and panoramic views across the Clyde. As the first new‑build Radisson RED in Europe, the project carried a significant design emphasis, requiring every detail to align with the brand’s bold international identity.
Designed by ADF Architects and delivered by Balfour Beatty Construction on behalf of Forrest Hotels (part of the Forrest Group), the £30m development forms a key landmark adjacent to the SEC, Clyde Auditorium and OVO Hydro. With a concept centred around colour, light, and movement, the building envelope was integral to achieving the hotel’s signature aesthetic.
Our Scope: High‑Performance Iridescent Rainscreen Cladding
Procladd were appointed to deliver the full external cladding installation, supplying and installing 3,500m² of aluminium rainscreen cladding across the building’s façade.
The system comprised:
- Alucobond Spectra ACM panel system
- Distinct Red Brass iridescent finish with dynamic colour‑shift properties
- Carefully colour‑matched fixings, trims and accessories to maintain the continuous visual effect
The chosen finish responds dramatically to changing natural daylight—shifting tone as sunlight reflects and refracts across the surface. This kinetic visual quality is the defining character of the hotel and demanded exceptional precision during installation to maintain consistency across all elevations.
Delivering Brand‑Critical Design Requirements
As Radisson RED’s first new‑build hotel in Europe, the building envelope had to align exactly with the global design brief used across the brand’s 1,370+ hotels worldwide. Great attention was given to:
- Panel alignment and joint accuracy
- Seamless transitions around windows and complex junctions
- Colour continuity across large uninterrupted elevations
- Achieving the clean, minimalist aesthetic demanded by the brand
The iridescent surface made precision even more critical, as minor deviations could affect the way the façade interacted with natural light. Procladd’s installation teams worked meticulously to achieve the perfectly uniform and high‑impact appearance required for this flagship project.
Technical Execution & Project Management
The hotel’s location—surrounded by major venues and high footfall—required tight planning, safe delivery strategies and close coordination with the main contractor.
Key project considerations included:
- Managing façade installation on a ten‑storey structure with limited perimeter access
- Sequencing works around other trades delivering rooftop amenities, including the Red Sky Bar and Red Face Gym
- Ensuring weather‑tightness across a complex envelope during phased construction
- Coordinating material deliveries within a constrained, city‑centre site
A Distinctive Architectural Landmark
The completed rainscreen façade forms one of Glasgow’s most recognisable modern building exteriors. The Alucobond Spectra Red Brass finish provides:
- A dynamic, colour‑changing appearance throughout the day
- Long‑term durability and weather resistance
- A façade that strongly reinforces the Radisson Red brand identity
- A high‑performance, low‑maintenance external envelope
The hotel has since become a major visual landmark along the Clyde Corridor, setting a new architectural tone for developments in the area.
Supporting an Iconic Waterfront Development
Radisson Red Glasgow represents a major investment in the city’s waterfront and cultural district. Procladd’s delivery of the feature façade played a central role in defining the hotel’s bold aesthetic, helping create a unique destination with significant visual and commercial impact.
The project stands as a showcase of our capability in delivering complex aluminium rainscreen systems, brand‑critical architectural finishes, and high‑profile city‑centre developments—cementing Procladd’s reputation for excellence in façade installation across Scotland’s hospitality and commercial sectors.
