Working with Procladd has been a very positive experience overall. Throughout the tender process and into project delivery, the team demonstrated a high level of professionalism and a proactive approach. Although the contract finalisation stage took longer than expected, with several issues arising that delayed signing, we appreciated that Procladd continued to progress design work during this period. This commitment was both helpful and reassuring. The quality of workmanship and attention to detail were consistently strong. It was clear that Procladd were focused on delivering a high quality project, and their dedication to achieving the best possible outcome was evident throughout. As a subcontractor, they fulfilled their role effectively and met our expectations in terms of service and product quality. Procladd provided a timely and reliable service, and despite a few challenges along the way, the overall experience was very positive. Communication was constructive, and the team remained committed to supporting the project’s needs. We would have no hesitation in recommending Procladd for future roofing and cladding works. Their professionalism, quality of service, and collaborative approach make them a strong partner for upcoming projects.

Case Study: Currie Community High School
As part of the £65m redevelopment of Currie Community High School, Procladd delivered the full roofing and cladding package for one of Scotland’s first Passivhaus‑designed secondary schools. Designed by Architype and built by Kier Construction for the City of Edinburgh Council, the 14,500m² facility is expected to use 70% less energy than a traditional school and forms a key part of Edinburgh’s ambition to reach net‑zero by 2030.
The project integrates extensive community facilities including a leisure centre, theatre, café, outdoor learning areas, a sensory garden, and a Passivhaus‑certified swimming pool—creating a landmark space for both students and local residents.
Our Scope: A £6.5m Roofing & Rainscreen Cladding Package
Procladd were responsible for delivering a comprehensive multi‑system envelope package, including:
- 6,000m² of Bauder felt roofing
- Eurooclad Prisma Ephyra liner sheets to external canopies
- 2,600m² of rainscreen cladding, featuring:
- 2,300m² Prefa Aluminium Zakenprofile (Bronze finish)
- 166m² Anvil “Blood Red” feature planks
- 207m² VM Zinc “Pigmento Red” interlocking planks
Supporting materials included Rockwool DuoSlab insulation, Hilti bracket and rail systems, PFC Corofil fire barriers, and SFS fixings—each selected to achieve the performance required for Passivhaus certification.
Delivering Passivhaus Performance: Precision, Detail & Zero Tolerance
The project required the entire building envelope to support rigorous Passivhaus standards, ensuring exceptional airtightness, thermal continuity, and long‑term energy efficiency.
Reducing Thermal Bridging Across the Envelope
Working closely with Architype, our design team:
- Developed junction details that eliminated cold bridging across all roofing and façade zones
- Reduced fixing penetrations to maintain airtightness
- Coordinated clerestory roofs and stair cores in bronze Prefa cladding
- Ensured precise thermal alignment across the 6,000m² roof and 2,600m² façade
The serrated pyramid aesthetic demanded exacting accuracy to achieve both architectural intent and Passivhaus performance.
High‑Accuracy Installation
To meet the zero‑tolerance requirements:
- Hilti laser technology was used to line and level bracket systems
- Prefa panels were cut onsite with millimetre precision
- Rockwool insulation was installed tightly butted, with no gaps
- All inspections were recorded through Kier’s Procore digital platform
These measures ensured consistent quality and supported successful air‑testing for certification.
Phased Delivery Across a Large, Multi‑Elevation Site
The scale of the building required a carefully structured programme. Our approach included:
- Full‑time contract management presence onsite
- Specialist labour squads working sequentially through each build‑up layer
- Daily coordination meetings to manage access and minimise trade clashes
- Bulk material orders and direct full‑load deliveries to protect programme and reduce environmental impact
This efficient phasing ensured continuity across all elevations and supported the safe installation of complex features.
Supporting a Sustainable, Community‑Focused Build
The roofing and cladding package plays a crucial role in delivering:
- A highly insulated, airtight envelope
- Reduced operational carbon aligned with Edinburgh’s net‑zero strategy
- Long‑term thermal and acoustic performance
- A durable exterior designed for future generations
The project also generated £1.8m in social value, including jobs, training, community engagement and the on‑site Constructing Futures Academy, where pupils gained first‑hand construction experience.
A Landmark Project for Scottish Education
Currie Community High School stands as a flagship Passivhaus development, showcasing Procladd’s expertise in delivering:
- Technically demanding building envelopes
- Precision‑led roofing and cladding installations
- Collaborative working with architects, contractors and certifiers
- High‑quality workmanship across complex, large‑scale projects
We are proud to have contributed to a facility that sets a new benchmark for sustainable school design in Scotland and supports an ambitious, community‑driven educational environment.
